The Gallery’s Collectible Editions

An important activity of the Moschandreou Gallery is the publication of collectible editions. The annual publication of a Collector’s Tome is now an established institution of the Gallery. The limited number of copies (up to 120 per tome) and the illustrations made by renowned artists, render each edition a collector’s item.

The Gallery’s publications include:

O Hymnos eis thn Eleftheria” by Dionysios Solomos with original brass etchings by Alekos Fassianos (1996). The book was published on the occasion of the anniversary of 170 years since the first edition of the National Anthem in 1825 at the Mesthenea printing press in Messolongi.

Year of Publication: 1997. Typography: Hand typesetting with a frame with 16’' elements and printed on a flat presser. Engraving: Two brass etchings that were engraved by the artist and printed on a manual press. All the typographies of the publication have been signed by the engraver. Copies: One hundred and twenty copies numbered from 1 to 120. Binding: paperback.

 

Thourios” by Riga Velestinlis, with original woodcuts by Yannis Kyriakides (1998). The presentation of this edition took place during the workshop: "Rigas Velestinlis, 200 years since his death," organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Thessaloniki Center of History.

Engraving: Seven woodcuts engraved in straight wood and printed on a flat press. All woodcuts of the publication have been signed by the engraver. Copies: One hundred and twenty copies numbered from 1 to 120. All the copies contain a suite. Binding: handmade clothbinding.

Upon completion of a decade since the founding of the Gallery, it published the work of Dionysios Solomos, “Gineka tis Zakynthos”, with original brass etchings by Alekos Fassianos.

Publication Year: 2006. Typography: Hand typesetting with a frame with 16’' elements and printed on a flat presser. Paper: Verlin Arches 200 gr. Engraving: Brass etching on a manual press. Copies: one hundred copies numbered 1-100 and another 5 numbered from V. All copies and brass etchings are signed by the artist.

On the occasion of 10 years of cultural contribution made by the Moschandreou Gallery, the collectible album “Messolonghi 2007” was published, with excerpts from previous editions of the Gallery and wood engravings by Dimitris Tsirogiannis.

Copies: a hundred and thirty copies numbered from 1 to 130. All copies are signed by the engraver. Binding: loose pages in a jacket .

 

In 2009, the Moschandreou Gallery published the work titled “Oi Ntapies tou Mesolongiou” by Christos Drakoulis Goudis with engravings by Yannis Kyriakides.

Publication Year: 2009. Typography: Typesetting by hand and printing on a flat printing press. Paper: Fabriano 90 gr. Engraving: engraving on linoleum. Copies: one hundred and twenty copies numbered from 1-120 and another 5 numbered from V. All copies are signed by the engraver.

In 2011, marking 175 years since the first edition of “Sozomenoi Logoi” by Spyridon Trikoupis, the Moschandreou Gallery proceeded to reissue this work made by the Messolonghi-born Prime Minister, using a traiditional printing technique and with woodcuts crafted by G.Gourzis, engraver and professor of the Higher School of Fine Arts.

The Christos and Sophia Moschandreou Gallery of Contemporary Art, aiming to promote modern Greek artistic creation, offered art lovers a series of collectible serigraphs designed by renowned contemporary Greek artists.
